"Early Language and Literacy Development: A Guide from Birth to 6 years” is an updated version of a language “wheel”, First Steps in Communication, co-created by the Washtenaw Intermediate School District and UCLL in 2003. On the wheel, we have outlined the behaviors and skills that preschoolers should demonstrate, at specific ages, to help you understand how language and communication develops in typical children. These are particularly helpful to young parents who have questions about their child’s language and literacy development.
