Summer Program: July 8 - July 31

Tues, Wed, Thurs, 3:30 - 5:00 p.m.

Held at Ann Arbor Academy

This summer we will be offering Teen Connections (TC) for 13- to 16-year-olds who need help making friends and understanding social relationships.

During the sessions, social interactions and peer relationship skills are modeled. Students receive instruction and participate in structured activities to develop pragmatic language skills related to:

  • Managing and interpreting body language
  • Perspective taking
  • Staying on topic
  • Turn taking
  • Asking and answering questions
  • Reciprocal interactions and listening skills
  • Greeting, requesting, and negotiating
  • Joining peer groups
  • Understanding and using idiomatic language

A behavioral reward system is used to encourage students to practice learned skills within the group setting. As a team, the students earn points toward a group outing at the end of the 4-week program. The students are encouraged to use positive peer pressure to help one another use learned skills. A positive and supportive environment is established during the first meeting and is developed throughout the following weeks. Also, homework assignments are given to help the students use learned skills outside of the group setting.

Teen Connections is generously supported in part by the financial donations to our Center.
