Many children and adults who have reading problems may be diagnosed with dyslexia. In the schools, children’s reading and writing problems are identified as a specific learning disability in written word decoding, reading comprehension, and or written expression. UCLL's team of language and literacy experts can help with reading, writing, and spelling. Committed to maximizing learning potential, we start with a complete assessment that evaluates the foundational skills needed to read (e.g., language, phonological awareness, phonics) as well as reading fluency and comprehension. We also work with children who have hyperlexia and specific challenges in writing and study skills. We understand that language and literacy skills go hand-in-hand and that there is no one approach to teaching literacy skills. Following the evaluation, an individual treatment plan with specific learning goals is designed for each client. We select from a number of programs such as Wilson Reading Program®, Orton-Gillingham®, Lindamood-Bell®, and Earobics® for example, selecting which approach would best fit each client's individual needs. Our goal is for each client to improve his or her skills, learn new strategies, and gain confidence to succeed academically and become an independent learner.
